Reignite Your Light
A Reflection on The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lantern
As I reflect on this week’s parable, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lantern, the message about reigniting your light — tending to the flame within — feels more important than ever. Whether we are leading a team at work, guiding our families at home, or simply steering our own lives, we must keep our imaginations alive and our desires burning.
When I think about my own career, I can recall times when my flame burned low — when the joy had faded from my work or when I felt depleted from the daily demands of life. At the time, I didn’t always recognize what was happening, but looking back, I see that I instinctively found ways to reignite my spark.
When we’re young, it’s easy to stumble upon excitement — first loves, first jobs, first trips without parents. Life is filled with “firsts” that fuel us. But in mid-life, whether you’re halfway through a career, embarking on a second one, or approaching retirement, the landscape changes. We’re no longer chasing the thrill of the “firsts,” so we must find new ways to reawaken passion and inspiration.
For me, that has often meant reinventing myself — even within the same role. Change doesn’t come easily for everyone, but as a Gemini (born at the end of May), adaptability is part of my nature. I’ve always loved astrology, and in my case, it has been a mirror to my own truth. Gemini is the communicator, the connector — and yes, the quick adapter. When I felt stuck or uninspired, it was my cue to shift, to try something different.
Sometimes the reinvention was professional, but often it meant adding something nourishing to my life outside of work. In my thirties, that took the form of learning about wellness, energy healing, and addressing childhood trauma. That path led me to work with people facing serious illnesses, including cancer, as an energy healer — all while still working in my corporate role. It made me a better employee, a better leader, and a better human.
The next turning point came when I lost my job for the first time in my career. It’s a difficult moment — one that shakes your identity. Some rush headlong into finding something new; I chose to reflect and retool. Yes, I searched for a new role, but I also poured myself into a personal project that would change how I saw myself. I partnered with a former colleague who shared my vision, and together we co-authored The JUMPin2it Breakthru Marketing Guide. This time, I wasn’t creating for another brand — I was creating for myself.
That book led to a podcast for women entrepreneurs, which evolved into workshops to help women find their purpose and reignite their vision. I even wrote a second book, Waking Up at 3 AM – A Beginner’s Guide to a Spiritual Awakening, sharing my journey of listening to my inner voice and trusting God’s guidance.
After that reinvention, I returned to helping small businesses grow their brands, but I didn’t abandon what I had built. I kept working with my co-author Gabrielle, kept writing, and kept teaching — whether about marketing and branding or about aligning with a deeper purpose. Somewhere along the way, I realized I had discovered my own deeper purpose.
This past year, I launched The Humble Leader Chronicles, completed my coaching certification, and began helping others uncover their purpose and shine their light. And that, for me, is the most fulfilling work of all.
If your flame feels dim, here’s what I’ve learned:
Challenge yourself to learn something new. A course, a workshop, a hobby — anything that stretches your thinking.
Feed your creativity. Try painting, cooking, crafting — even if you’ve never done it before.
Move your body. Walking, running, swimming — physical activity clears the mind.
Get into the light. Natural sunlight is medicine for the soul.
Your light matters — to you and to the world. Tend to it with care. Protect it. Reignite it as often as you need to.
With love and gratitude,
Anita
